Graphic Designer Internship- Swank Motion Pictures

 

Internship Objectives

The objective of this internship is to generate a fresh perspective in the design and layout of Swank Motion Pictures university-based markets collateral materials.

This internship will also aid in the Art Department workload during a historically busy timeframe – catalog development season.

Focal Points

The Graphic Design Intern will be responsible for all stages of development of printed marketing collateral. The intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with marketing staff and other graphic designers to assist in the development of concepts. This intern will also have the opportunity to design and present layouts independently.

The internship will involve design and layout work for a number of Swanks business-to-business markets, with a specific concentration on our university and student-based market; including College Sales, Residence Life Cinema and Digital Campus.

The intern will also gain exposure to the execution process by maintaining project involvement through approvals and the production/printing process.

Core Skills Required

In order to succeed in this internship, candidate must possess core graphic design skill and technical experience with the software currently in use in the Art Department.

Core graphic design skill will be defined by a candidates ability to demonstrate completed coursework related to concept development, layout, design, and typography. Additionally, candidates must be able to demonstrate proficiency in a Macintosh environment using Adobe Creative Suite InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

A successful intern will also regularly demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills, specifically related to communicating rationale behind design choices.

Reporting

This intern will report to the Director of Marketing, and will be assigned a mentor.

The intern will meet:
Daily with mentor to discuss assigned projects and overall work flow
Weekly with marketing team to report project status
Weekly with mentor to discuss projects, resolve questions and ensure internship objectives are met

Final Report/Delivery

The intern will prepare a gallery-style presentation of boarded work in an informal gathering at the end of the internship. He/she will board and display all work completed during internship providing visibility to his/her contribution during the internship, and will aid in the portfolio building exercise required of Graphic Design students.
