Here’s a Logo For You

What an honor to be slammed today by the St. Louis Egotist, such a noteworthy publication that supposedly “exists for the sole purpose of making St. Louis a more thriving & creative community.”  I didn’t realize it’s a competition to help the St. Louis market.

Egotist didn’t like AdSaint’s logo treatment (or the logo design itself from Schupp) which appeared in a story we did for The Society for the Blind & Visually Impaired. Okay, fair enough.  But they missed the point. We personally called and interviewed The Society for the Blind & Visually Impaired, who were giddy that our publication thought they were media-worthy, something the Ego folks only considered when short on news for the day and in need of a project to rip.  Perhaps Egotist needs a PR 101 lesson in community-building, but we at AdSaint understand that building a stronger community isn’t done by tearing it down and making petty arguments.  People of real vision and leadership build communities by taking the time to get to know every aspect of that community and to bring out the best in it.  So to Egotist, way to go in taking down a small non-profit with limited resources and a fellow community site with a shared mission!

While the Egotist may believe stories are all about stunning visuals and good punchlines, AdSaint is actually trying to build a community and make everyone, not just a handful of people, feel like they’re a part of it.

I see both sides of this. While personally, I think the entire Egotist network can be pricks at time with the brashness of their commentary, I think it's definitely a welcome change to the constant back patting and PR babel found everywhere else.

Thanks for weighing in, Mike. No one wins when there's a closed network, whether it's back patting or back biting. We appreciate honest perspectives when they move a community or idea forward with purpose and inspiration, but do you really feel that's happening with our fellow community-builders?

@Mike I truly appreciate brash commentary, but the fact that they hide behind anonymity and refuse to take ownership of their ideas? Weak.

I'll start taking the Egotist network seriously when their contributors start growing a pair. Until then, I'll continue to view it as nothing more than a network of cowards.

@Angie I think you're both in the wrong for slamming each other.

Was Egotist in the right to slam AdSaint for posting the post in question? Who cares, that's their opinion. There's nothing wrong with having an opinion.

But responding to a slam with a slam? That's petty and just adding fuel to the fire.

There is a high road around here somewhere...

Pissing contests like this is why I'm glad I'm an inhouse designer.

Tristan and InhouseDesigner, there is no contest here. We simply do not believe that their story does anything positive for the community. We feel strongly enough about it that we want our opinion to be known. It is causing self-reflection and response, and perhaps something worthwhile will result.
